CULTURE A LA CARTE

We went to this cultural event in Fredericksburg last year and had a good time.  They attract school kids (and adults!) from all over the area, and will be making a special effort to get Latin students this year.  The date is Saturday March 5, from 11 AM to 4 PM, and the location is Riverbend High School (different site from last year but not far away).  It's an indoor event, so no weather worries or tent, and there will be lots of visitors.

MARCHING THROUGH TIME

We have a date for Marching Through Time, April 16-17.  Public hours will be from 11 AM to 5 PM, so participants should aim to arrive by 10 AM. As in previous years, you may drive into the camp area on Friday or on Saturday morning until 9:30 AM, but by 9:30 am on Saturday all vehicles must be offsite. Parking is available at the Glenn Dale Community Center, 11901 Glenn Dale Boulevard; it is on the left about a mile north of Marietta on Route 193.  There will be a continuous shuttle running from the site to the parking area. Many of us park along the road outside the site, which is "at your own risk".  We probably all know the drill just fine by now, but I'll let you know if there are any changes.

Apparently the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission wants to close Marietta House Museum and use the building for offices.  This would presumably mean the end of public historical events being hosted there.  The local community is attempting to prevent this, and recently the Friends of Marietta House Museum was founded.  Contact me if you want more information on this issue.

And of course please contact me if you plan to attend MTT!   We don't have many big events, so let's make this a good one.

MORE DISTANT EVENTS

LAFE 43 AD

This is the annual non-public immersion event at Legio II Augusta's reconstructed fort at Lafe, Arkansas.  The date for 2011 is March 17-20, and more details can be found at their website, http://www.ad43.org/
---------------------

HISTORY ALIVE

Formerly held each year in the Norfolk Botanical Gardens, this multi-era event is moving to the Chesapeake Central Library in Portsmouth, VA.  The tentative date is April 8-10 (one week before MTT).  I'm guessing that our compatriots in Legio IX Hispana are already part of this, but anyone from Legio XX who is interested is certainly encouraged.  Let me know if you want contact information.

Gruppo Storico Romano is hosting an event to celebrate the founding of Rome, taking place in Rome itself.  (The one in Italy!)  It will run from Saturday April 16 through Thursday April 21, 2011.  If you are interested in this, you must register by March 5.  Details and registration form can be found online:
